Lyrical breakdown… – Frank Ocean – “pyramids”🗻

Lyrical analyzation: “pyramids” by frank ocean.

Here they are:
“Pimping in my convos
Bubbles in my champagne
Let it be some jazz playing
Top floor motel suite, twisting my cigars
Floor model TV with the VCR
Got rubies in my damn chain
Whip ain’t got no gas tank
But it still got woodgrain
Got your girl working for me
Hit the strip and my bills paid
That keep my bills paid
Hit the strip and my bills paid
Keep a nigga bills paid.”

Breakdown verse by verse…

Pimping in my convos
Bubbles in my champagne
Let it be some jazz playing

“Frank is referring to the player lifestyle and all the various small-time facets that which create the overall atmosphere our character is caught in but truly the realization that even though it’s considered to be living the life – there’s a seemingly dark reality that cannot be ignored within the confines of this sin-filled underground lifestyle.”

Top floor motel suite, twisting my cigars
Floor model TV with the VCR
Got rubies in my damn chain
Whip ain’t got no gas tank
But it still got woodgrain

“All the material things that make one stuck within that difficult lifestyle feel his own skewed sense of accomplishment by the gain/and loss of such materialistic accolades and how they really don’t account for much, ultimately, but nevertheless matter most to our male lead in the story centered within these set of excellently-written lyrics.”

Got your girl working for me
Hit the strip and my bills paid
That keep my bills paid
Hit the strip and my bills paid
Keep a nigga bills paid

“Never lived on the Vegas strip before but sure wouldn’t want to. It’s a hard lifestyle that is actually packed full of ebbs and flows that don’t necessarily dictate a stable career via any means and the imagery used here by frank ocean is brilliant in the sense that it is simple enough to grasp the general concept, yet the irony is ever-present as lyrics aforementioned refer to things like having the gangster car with the wood grain steering wheel but it being empty with no gas in it, they all surely can equate to the ultimate paradox of what it is to be ‘the man’ working his ho’s on the glitzy flashing lights of the Vegas strip.
